But the starting point was far from perfect: an old, dilapidated rose nursery, in the middle of an economic crisis. Yet they gave it new life, with one mission: pure, sustainable flowers.

The seasonal product full of character

HIP Holland is all about seasonal growth. Unlike roses, hydrangeas cannot be controlled with lamps or heating. That makes it challenging, but also exactly what makes these flowers so unique. They require care, attention, and… patience. The season starts in May and continues until mid-November. Many growers force flowering as early as March, but that comes at the expense of shelf life. HIP Holland lets nature do its work. The result? Hydrangeas that not only stay fresh longer, but also flourish in their natural vigour.

Sustainability: not just a word, but a lifestyle

Two years ago, the energy crisis threw everything upside down. HIP Holland decided to take a radical step: the greenhouse was no longer heated. This shortened the season by a month, but the quality went up. Thanks to natural ventilation and reduced gas consumption, cultivation is almost entirely organic. The hydrangeas are stronger, healthier and, more importantly, more sustainable.

The grower also discovered that less is often more. Instead of overloading the plants with nutrients, they get exactly what they need. This makes for sturdy flowers that last longer. And better for the environment, of course!

HIP Holland consists of 10 departments spread over 3.5 hectares. Hydrangeas grow here in different lengths, carefully selected for flower thickness and stem strength. The result? A uniform, reliable product that florists can rely on. Every day, the flowers are put on auction and delivered directly to buyers like Greenflor. Customers can count on consistent quality and the perfect length for their needs.
