Autumn is all about Colored hydrangeas hydrangeas.
As summer draws to a close, hydrangeas become prominent again. Imagine thousands of tiny clouds of color covering vast French fields. You can find this breathtaking image at nursery Jardin Hortence in Brittany, France, which since 2014 has been proudly part of the flower importer Greenflor who supply wholesalers. It is the place where our unique through-colored hydrangeas originate.
A nursery full of love from Colored hydrangeas
Jardin Hortence was founded some 40 years ago by a couple from Brabant. Located in Pommerit-Jaudy, a small village in Brittany, the hydrangea plants enjoy optimal Mediterranean weather conditions. Step by step, they expanded their fields to twelve acres today.
When the couple retired, Greenflor, as one of the largest buyers, took over this unique nursery. Arnold Glasbergen and his wife Annelies, our own experts by experience, now lovingly take care of the fields. They keep them up to date, from maintenance to planting, and from feeding to pruning. In this way, a unique product line continues with enthusiasm, so Greenflor can continue to provide its customers with the most beautifully colored hydrangeas.
Unique color combinations of Colored hydrangeas
When the first spring sun appears, Jardin Hortence’s nearly 20,000 hydrangea plants are ready. Inside, they are a veritable production factory running at full speed. New stems, leaves and buds are rapidly being created in preparation for the new season.
Starting in July, hydrangeas begin to bloom, with tens of thousands of pink and blue flowers poking out proudly above the greenery. The trick now is to be patient. If you do not prune the flowers at this point but let nature take its course, they will become beautifully colored through. Thus, starting in September, beautiful bulbs with sturdy leaves emerge in all kinds of imaginable color combinations: green, blue, purple, pink and various shades of red. It is a true spectacle of color and a wonderful process to follow!
