“Let nature express itself with the latest floral trends of 2023, where bright colors and pastels create a majestic symphony.”

Flowers bring color to our lives

But what if we could present these colors in a unique, surprising way? Dorien van den Berg is a green stylist and knows best how to use flowers conceptually, to create amazing real stories. Whether you are a grower or own a garden center, Dorien knows how to present your products in a sales-oriented manner.

How does Dorien perform her craft?

Step one is to determine the target audience. Who do you want to address and what do you want to sell? Dorien then creates a concept around the flowers, so that they are presented appealingly. Fashion and trends play an important role. She keeps a close eye on these trends and translates them to the flower industry.

Dorien takes care of, among other things, the styling for photo shoots and the decoration of, for example, catering establishments. Her working methods ensure that flowers surprisingly come to the attention, leaving a magnificent effect on the atmosphere of a room.

Dorien draws inspiration from fairs, shops, magazines, social media, trend lectures, and big fashion brands. This gives her a wide range of ideas and inspiration for her crafts.

We asked Dorien the following three questions:

What flower trends do you expect for autumn 2023, and how do you apply these in arrangements and decoration?

According to Dorien, seasonal flowers, large bright flowers such as dahlia, colored limonium, and eucalyptus will become recurring items. Think of eucalyptus on festively set tables or colorful bouquets wrapped in bright paper. Airy bouquets or wobbly and compact. The retro style is also back. Your own little floral piece of happiness in your area or at your home!

Which colors are popular in autumn/winter 2023, and why?

According to Dorien, bright pink, lilac, and blue are trendy colors this year, combined with accents of green, yellow, and orange. But pastel and cream tones also remain hot, depending on the target group. For 2024 we also see deep turquoise blue emerging. We will also see a lot of bubbles, stripes, dots, circles, and squares. Dare to combine different forms and shapes, like circles with squares, with strips across, and transparent circles placed in front of it.

How can florists distinguish themselves in 2023?

According to Dorien, the personal factor is what’s most important. Make sure to always remain surprising, is her golden tip. “Ten red tulips are just ten red tulips. It’s about what you do with them!” she says enthusiastically. Dare to experiment with new types of arrangements and decorations. Step out of your comfort zone and venture off the beaten track. A Christmas tree or table centerpiece does not have to be dull but can be made into a challenge every time!
