Peach Blossom is pure craftsmanship! The exclusive wholesaler greenflor meets the Italian grower Paulo, whose family has been growing peach blossoms for more than 100 years. Paulo: “Pruning the blossom from the tree and then allowing it to bloom at the right time in the consumer’s home in a vase is an art in itself!”

The blooming period of the peach blossom

In the middle of his orchard – which still has bare branches – the Italian Paulo says that he will already start pruning in January. “We help nature a bit to get buds in the branches. Then we remove the branches from the field. The short peach blossoms of 60 centimeters are bunched in the field, the long peach blossoms up to 120 centimeters are bunched in the different halls.”

Paulo and his colleagues place the pruned branches in a warm cell with high humidity, which creates the buds. When the blossom branches are ready for departure, they are taken from the warm cell to a cold cold store. Paulo: “That way, they bloom exactly on time when they arrive at the customer!”

Growing peach blossom

Paulo’s family has been growing peach blossoms for over a hundred years. This peach blossom is a product that comes specifically from this region. Peach is only available from these two regions. “The knowledge to bring peaches into bloom is unique! That craftsmanship is only available here in-house. Pruning the blossom from the tree and then having it bloom at the right time in the consumer’s home in a vase is a profession in its own right! Fortunately, we manage to do that every season,” says Paulo with satisfaction.

Peach Blossom Areas

Purchaser Marc, who has been visiting de Paulo for many years, says that the exclusive wholesaler Greenflor uses two production areas to spread the season well. Marc: “Both southern France and central Italy have a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool winters. The fresh winters are necessary to set the branch into bloom, which sets the flowers on. Due to the early spring with the high light intensity, flowering is very prosperous. Thus the perfect combination for our peach!”

Blossom season

“Who doesn’t cheer up peach blossom branches in a vase? To ensure that fresh peach blossom branches are available all spring, we have different peach varieties,” Marc says enthusiastically. There are early varieties and late varieties. Little by little pruning is done until the last week of February. That is why we can offer peach blossom from mid-January to mid-March.

Types of peach blossoms

There are several varieties of peach blossom. At the beginning of January we supply the standard types of peach blossom and from the end of February we start with special types of double and white peach blossom. Marc: “These double varieties have an even larger flower and the white flowers are very unique. You hardly see this one anywhere. Thus, the peach offers optimal enjoyment all spring long!”
