A South-French countryside road trip leads us to an authentic French greenhouse. As we step into this nursery, we are mesmerized by a jungle of green and color, adorned with magnificent French snapdragons towering up to 2 meters high. The nephew of the grower arrives on his red tractor, proudly posing amidst the towering blooms for our photos and videos.
Exclusive French Snapdragons
The French Snapdragon is a beautiful, exclusive product that, thanks to the unique combination of climate, location, and optimal growing conditions, can grow up to twice the size of its Dutch or elsewhere cultivated counterparts. They have more time to grow and enjoy more space, but we suspect the delightful French winter sun also plays a role in this magnificent creation. French Snapdragons are true showstoppers, perfect for large vases in hotels, restaurants, events, and weddings.
International Trade in Snapdragons
The planting of these unique snapdragons takes place annually between week 35 and week 40. Every 10 days, the grower then plants different sections. This smart strategy ensures that the harvest and subsequent trade are spread out, allowing grower Aurélien Giraudo, through his nursery Floralia, to sell his beautiful French snapdragons from December all the way through the end of March to enthusiasts both domestically and internationally. A significant portion of his snapdragons finds its way to the cash & carry of exclusive flower wholesaler Greenflor. The florists, garden centers, and wholesalers who purchase from us are thrilled with this arrangement!
A smart grower
In the same soil, after the early snapdragon season, celosias and lisianthus are also planted later in the year. This savvy grower ensures himself of income throughout the rest of the year with this strategy. Sustainable use of his greenhouse and year-round bread… err… income, on the table!
